Drying Flowers

Drying flowers for the first time... let's see how this goes!

The first bouquet has roses, gerberas, and some purply pink flowers that I cannot identify. Edit: They are Statice flowers.

I love how this one looks as if they're levitating(!):

The other day, while wandering, I saw a bunch of these gorgeous antique pink roses at a dairy. 

They came home with me, and are now hanging in my closet:

I've hung the pink roses for two days now, and the outer petals are starting to go brown. I had hoped the pink would stay. :-(

Primulas

I think I'll have to get some Primula's for my bedroom... I had them when we first moved here, and I found having plants in my bedroom tremendously calming and just very nice. I felt less lonely while cooped up in my room doing assignments, and watering them was so therapeutic!

chocolate withdrawals

Ohhh yeah. Sometimes, I just eat way too much chocolate. Chocolate that comes in blocks, buttons, Tim Tams, Starbucks, ice creams, even my pearl milk teas have to be chocolate flavoured.

(and what do I do when I'm having chocolate withdrawals? I design what I'm feeling. Which is terrible, really, seeing that the colour sort of intensifies my cravings... hmmm)

And just as I decide that I won't consume any more chocolate, I get an email newsletter telling me how there's a massive sale in one of the coolest little chocolate shops. Sigh...

I was trying to find instructions on how to make tissue paper lei's/garlands (for a photography assignment)... couldn't find a tutorial so am inventing my own... if it works out, I shall share the tutorial :)

Crazy nails?

Just as I was reeling from the discovery of shatter nail polish by OPI last week,  I came across this:

Holographic nails.

Do you wear crazy nail polishes? The craziest ones I've bought were a clear glitter one (which I don't use anymore hehe) and the Russian Navy... oh and Firetruck Red. :P But I think I do prefer normal colours better.

evolution of type taste

This is Jessica Hische's "Evolution of Type Taste". 

Funny, my evolution follows almost exactly the same path! When I first learned that I could type and make pretty pictures on the computer, I loved Comic Sans (gasp!) and Curlz MT. In high school, I loved Verdana (I still kind of do), Trebuchet (this typeface you're reading at the moment!) and Impact (of all the typefaces!). First year of high school, it was Baskerville and Gill Sans. And this year, I am loving the look of Archer (and a whole lot of vintage-y ones)! So so pretty. I might just buy it. Hmmm.

Yes, peoples, my first Graphic Design assignment of this year is to design a typeface! So far I have veered off track from my original design plan, but let's see how it ends up! Here is a screenshot of my original concept:

It was inspired by stars, constellations, and this! And even if I don't design it for the assignment, I plan on refining and working on it later on... :)

I know that I haven't posted the usual 'cluster of links' for this week, but I have been working on something else for everyone (while keeping up with a few other things in the non-bloggy life... hehe). I have designed a few Valentine-themed desktop wallpapers that I will share here from Monday-Friday next week.

It's crazy how much work goes into an animated movie! 24 drawings per second! :)

NZ is the place to be!

According to this, NZ is the place to be next year, what with the Rugby World Cup and shooting of The Hobbit! Kinda sorta cool! It's going to be a fun year!

Is anyone thinking of coming to Auckland next year?!

p.s.: We used to live really really close to the place where the World Cup is going to be held. Like... five minutes walking distance close. Like... we could hear the crowds roar close!

An enchanted forest

While coming back from watching the newest Narnia movie, L. and I ventured on to High Street. I spotted a little nook, with steps leading downstairs to a basement. Everything was painted black, and I could see... Christmas trees (no joke).

I walked downstairs, L. hesitating—she told me that she regarded adventures as being only in Narnian worlds, and not in real life—but she followed me nonetheless.

We reached the bottom and there were more Christmas trees, the smell of pine, the sound of birds chirping and water flowing, and twinkling blue lights that led alongside a path. We followed along and came to a clearing. I swear I was waiting for some magical creature to leap out at me (yes, too many fantasy movies have gone to my head).

We were in the Christmas Shop on High Street (thank goodness it wasn't anything dodgy)! I loved the idea of this little refuge from the hustle-and-bustle (yes, yes, compared to some cities, Auckland is quite serene) of the city. If you're in the city, do check it out.

The shop is open till Friday 24th of December, and in the said clearing is a manned desk where there is a lucky dip for gifts. All donated by retailers on High Street. Pretty cool.

p.p.s.: I think it's kind of cool that I happen to find an "enchanted" forest the day I go to watch Narnia. It's a sign. ^.^

Feather Decor

This Saturday, we went to the Duck Park. I collected a variety of duck and goose feathers, and was contemplating making a feather headband til' I came across this post on feather decor from Apartment Therapy.

I'm not sure how much I'd like to have feathers floating around in my room (I was scared of feathers when I was little, and I'm still not a huge fan of them), but it's something that would also look good in a lounge or a passage. Hmmm.

Immortelle ♥

You know, sometimes you smell something, and it takes you somewhere else? In another time? In another place? 

's what happened to me when I took a whiff of the lovely Immortelle range by L'Occitane. I was transported to the pine forest of Ooty, where I'd picked up a big bunch of these flowers. They were tiny, plasticky flowers (seriously, they feel fake!) and they stay on like that for a long long time (hence "immortelle"). I loved their perfume then, I love it now! I'm going to scout for these flowers in Auckland now. 

Anyway... the Immortelle range is a little out of budget for me (and can I say unnecessary? It's all about anti-aging!), but I did get a little Verbena Solid Perfume. It's for $25 and it comes in a puny tin case. Verbena is their Lemon/Citrus range, and I love the perfume. 

If you like Citrus-y fragrances, do try it on the next time you're in a L'Occitane. It looks like this. 

Acrylic Nails?

I just came across this concept of painting your fingernails with Acrylic paints while blog-hopping. It sounds fun, but I am a bit skeptical... would you do it? Or would you rather stick to traditional nail polish?
