Oh, I love this video. I like it so much because it's similar to my last assignment of university, where I made Facebook as it would've been in the Victorian era.
I hope everyone's having a super Easter holiday. :-)

AUT Grad Exhibition
We're almost there. The AUT final year exhibition is in a week! We're all busy with preparing the rooms, sending invitations, and creating our work, of course! I'd been to the AUT graduation exhibitions since before I started my degree, and I'd taken it all in with awe. And now, it's my turn to be part of it! It's almost unreal.
The student exhibition is open from the 10th of November till the 12th of November, from 10am—7pm. It's an exhibition of not just Graphic Design work, but Digital, Fashion, Product, Spatial, Textiles and Visual Arts also.
If you are in Auckland, do come. It will be amazing. :-)

Vintage Advertisements
My final assignment for university (eek! How did I get here so fast!?) requires me to design Victorian-style logotypes for contemporary companies such as Apple, or Facebook (I haven't decided which one yet).
I came across these vintage-style advertisements for Facebook, Skype, Youtube, Twitter while researching. Pretty cool, huh?

Design Sandbox
Hey there, please check out Design Sandbox, it's a blog I co-author as part of my work experience and partly for our university.
I've also linked to it on the right-hand side (under "Creative Bees"), lest you lose it ;)

Internship :D
Hello, friends!
I started my internship at a very cool company last Monday, and what can I say except for it's going really really well! There is only so much that design schools teach us, and having a "real world" work experience is crucial. I'm learning as much as I can! :)
Only one semester left till I finish my course! Eeeeek! :O :O

Of Typefaces

I hereby introduce you to my favourite new typeface—Egyptienne, by Adrian Frutiger. It is even more awesomer in italics.
The infographic is still in design-mode, although I am very happy as to where it is headed. I am currently snowed under with assignments and all-nighters, but I will come back and share my assignments in a week.
:)
Edit: Any Lord of the Rings movie fans from Auckland? The extended versions of the movies are releasing in theatres, starting next week! Eeeee! (So are the Harry Potter movies!!)

Lord of the Rings
One of the best things about a Graphic Design course? Most of the time, we can "customise" our assignments and mesh things we like with the given brief.
For example. Need to write a long essay discussing semiotics in advertising? Do it on hair straighteners (I wrote mine on ghd advertising last year)! Designing a typeface and have an interest in stars and constellations? Do this! And so on.
So for my newest assignment, which is to create an Information Graphic, I have chosen—The Lord of the Rings! Yes, peoples! My research is to watch/read Lord of the Rings and map out the Fellowship's journey, attacks, major events, interesting quotes, deaths, and meeting new characters! Let's see how this goes, eh!?

evolution of type taste
This is Jessica Hische's "Evolution of Type Taste".

Funny, my evolution follows almost exactly the same path! When I first learned that I could type and make pretty pictures on the computer, I loved Comic Sans (gasp!) and Curlz MT. In high school, I loved Verdana (I still kind of do), Trebuchet (this typeface you're reading at the moment!) and Impact (of all the typefaces!). First year of high school, it was Baskerville and Gill Sans. And this year, I am loving the look of Archer (and a whole lot of vintage-y ones)! So so pretty. I might just buy it. Hmmm.
Yes, peoples, my first Graphic Design assignment of this year is to design a typeface! So far I have veered off track from my original design plan, but let's see how it ends up! Here is a screenshot of my original concept:
It was inspired by stars, constellations, and this! And even if I don't design it for the assignment, I plan on refining and working on it later on... :)

sleeeep.
Drinking peppermint tea right now hoping it'll jog my brain into a decent working mode? But no, I put sugar in it, it'll most probably lull me to sleep. I sure hope not.

First week back + hair bows
Wow, so, the first week of the last year has swept past in talking, giggles, and catching up on updates! It was fun to see everyone after a long four month break, and I feel like I have talked more than I did all February! People have updated their hairstyles, and I saw a lot of fresh nail colours!
I thought that after such a big holiday, I'd be reluctant to get into the working/designing mode again, but I am actually really very excited/inspired to get designing and working towards assignments.
Anyway, I thought I'd show you what I've made in the holidays!

I'm so proud of my hair bows. Such a step up from this!

Rotorua
Hello! Did you all have a lovely—and, for those who are in New Zealand, long—weekend?
We went to Rotorua (no photos, sorry!), and had the most fun with our family friends and their two adorable daughters (who I consider my sisters; I'm an only child). I screamed a lot while luge-ing, and then I screamed some more while zorbing. It's kind of embarassing that the six-year-old wasn't remotely scared while I was, well, nervous. Oh well. I had good fun in the end :P and I definitely want to do it again. I wish they had more of this stuff in Auckland too, but we got the Sky Tower.
And then, we went to Waitomo Caves. While we were in the 'cathedral' part of the caves, our guide asked if anyone from our group would like to sing to us, as a lot of world-class singers had held concerts in there. I put my hand up. The guide turned off all the lights, and I sang 'You Raise Me Up' for our tour. I thought it fitted the atmosphere perfectly, in those cool, quiet caves. It was quite a magical moment. :)
This is how I spent the last days of the first month of this new year. Can't believe we're in to February already! And before long I will be exhibiting my final project for the course, and collecting my degree!

stop motion goodness.
Sometimes, these link lists delude me into thinking that I'm done blogging for the week. LOL.
Anyway, I came across this video on facebook (thanks, Kunal). Had to share:
Just got the timetable for this year! Eep! University starts in just a little over a month! :O

Spot the Difference!

Okay, I'll tell you. The first one is a photo taken by me for an assignment. The second one, however, is a painting.
Take a look at more hyper-real paintings from my much older post.

Birthday Cookies
Feeling totally inspired by Amber Spiegel and her cookies... mmm... I'm going to be making cookies for my small birthday get-together on Saturday (along with lots of other nosh, of course!). But the cookie will not be the focus of the cookie-making-and-devouring, it'll be the decoration on it... I hope that makes sense. But I guess it doesn't. I'll definitely put a photo up after Saturday to let you know what I'm babbling about. Haha...
And talk about "you are your worst client". It took me hours to design my birthday invites and a rough draft for my new portfolio website (it's an assignment for university). Sigh.
