Facebook in the 90s

Oh, I love this video. I like it so much because it's similar to my last assignment of university, where I made Facebook as it would've been in the Victorian era.

I hope everyone's having a super Easter holiday. :-)

hi :-)

Soo, I haven't updated in a while, and—holy moly I just checked the blog traffic, there're quite a few people reading this!—thought I'd pop in and write a post. I did mention that I was working towards getting my first proper graphic design job. Well, tick that off the list, for I am now working at one of New Zealand's largest media companies! Anywho, that's what's keeping me busy these days!

I happened across these delightful lollies (well, they look delightful, I haven't actually tried them) and thought the blog world might like to see :-)

Photos aren't great, but they would've helped me super-duper-immensely back in my first year of uni when I was trying to research and recreate Victorian chocolate packaging, but, never mind! If you're in Auckland and you're looking for these, you'll find them at Sabato.

The person who created this, is a genius. And how weird is it, that the singing voice is so similar to Christopher Lee's own voice?!

These days, I find myself looking at lots of well-designed packaging. Hmmm.

Anyway. Is this the most prettiest nail polish ever, or what?

And how about this sweet perfume bottle with the pincushion and Victorian-inspired pins?!

crabtree and evelyn

On Tuesday, Libby, Chloe, and I walked into Crabtree and Evelyn. Seriously. If I had the money, I would buy everything in there. And their packaging is exactly the sort of design I'm really inspired by at the moment, so! Oh the joy! :D

hugo

I saw Hugo yesterday, and left feeling super inspired (and a little embarrassed because I fell smack on all fours while getting out). It was a bit slow at times, but apart from that, it is simply wonderful to watch. Read a more detailed review here.

Thanks for following le blahg, Saskia! :D

the groovy baker

Holy Lollipops. The Groovy Baker has the most varied variety I've ever seen! I think they might be the Bertie Botts of the Muggle World.

There's Jupiter 'pops...

but the one I'd like to try the most, is Orange Blossom Thyme.

+ I know Valentines' Day is over, but check out this super cool pixel heart necklace.

+ Uhm, I really wanted to try Rainbow Twizzlers for some strange reason, and I did. I would say that Stephanie was right, and they taste and have the texture of flavoured plastic (not that I've ever tried plastic). Aaanyway. Read this funny review about Twizzlers.

+ Mark Weaver's Make Something Cool Every Day. So. Inspiring. :')

+ Scientists discover the most relaxing tune ever. I think it's pretty sweet.

Bas Meeuws

Check out the fantastic work of Bas Meeuws!

The photographs are inspired by 17th Century Dutch still life paintings.

Did you know that in the 17th Century, paintings of flowers were actually cheaper than the real kind? Painters did not paint by looking at a real vase of flowers, but rather from a book which was like a compendium of individual floral paintings. They then pieced their still life from this book. Meeuws' work follows the same principle, as all of the flowers are individually photographed then put together digitally! Fascinating stuff! Read more about it here!

A new start.

Well!

This will take some getting used to! But, I was tired of the background, it was too much, and most of all, it wasn't necessary.

So here it is, my clean blog. There are still a few tweaks left to do. Hmm. :-)

What's on my mind?

Sweet confectionery!

First up is this delicious peppermint bark that Michelle kindly sent me (along with a box of American chocolates!).

I never had peppermint bark before, and I absolutely loved it! I found a recipe here that helped me make my own (which also turned out pretty good if I say so myself!). It's seriously easy+fun to make. Melt dark chocolate, cool it, melt white chocolate, pour on top, sprinkle with crushed up candy canes, cool that, DONE. :D And, oh yeah, post-Christmas sale means cheap as candy canes. Cha-ching! ;)

Now I also want to try making macarons! These guys make it sound so easy!

Challenge accepted?

Uhhh.

Who knew that paint curdles?! Not me. This lovely surprise was waiting for me as I opened my tub of fluorescent pink poster paint.

It looks like a bad science experiment. Hey. Maybe this is how they make slime/gunge (?). I've been madly stirring it, trying to get it all nice and paint-like consistency again, but to no avail.

Does anyone know? Has this paint gone past the point of no return?

2012

Happy New Year, and I hope whoever is reading this, you're having a wonderful year already!

After a little break where I went crazy pinning things, I am back in the blog-mode for the fourth year now. It's my first year out of any type of education institution, and I'm kind of like, eek, where to from here?! But I'm sure this moment of panic will pass.

Have I made any resolutions, no, I haven't. I will however work towards my portfolio and CV, becoming fit, and getting that job.
